Copán Ruinas, Honduras

Copán Ruinas has truly become home. Its a place small enough to count the number of paved roads on one hand but big enough to go a week without running into a good friend. We feel blessed and privileged to live in such a peaceful, quiet city surrounded by breath-taking beauty.  This peace and quiet is due in large part to tourism, which is the staple of Copan Ruinas' income. This accounts for the classy hotels and paved roads, but despite appearances, the general population of Copan Ruinas is very poor. The majority of the people in Copan Ruinas struggle just like the rest of Honduras to provide basic needs for their families, although you'd never guess it based on their generosity.
