History: Learn about our journey! The vision of UrbanPromise Honduras continues to become a reality. Our story is much longer and exciting than what we have room for here but hopefully this will give you a glimpse into our journey. It does not stop here! We hope and wait for the ways in which God will further his vision of empowering children in Honduras to realize their potential and become leaders among their people.
March 2008- While teaching 5th grade at Mayatan Bilingual School in Honduras, Blair Quinius began noticing basic needs that were not being met in the lives of children he worked with. Having aldready had years of experience working and developing the UrbanPromise model, Blair began to imagine and envision similar programs in Honduras. After speaking with children, families and community leaders about the needs in the area, Blair wass encouraged enough to pursue and implement a vision for dynamic youth ministries in Copan Ruinas. June 2008- Bruce Main and Lindsey Markelz of UrbanPromise International met with Blair Quinius in Camden, NJ with the purpose of hearing more about this vision for Honduras and determine what must be done to make it a reality. October 2008- Guided by the leadership of UrbanPromise International, Blair and Matt Wall began training in Camden, NJ to learn the fundamentals of non-profit management and lay the groundwork for UrbanPromise Honduras. January 2009- Blair and Matt spent 2 months in Honduras preparing and eventually directing a Pilot Program in Copan Ruinas. After encouraging responses from children, parents and community leaders they decided to pursue permanent ministries in the town of Copan Ruinas. March 2009- The board of UrbanPromise International officially voted UrbanPromise Honduras to become the first international branch under their umbrella! June 2009- The UrbanPromise team is made complete! Blair and Matt are joined by the newest member Rachel Nelson in Honduras. After days, weeks and months of preparation, the first summer camp for UrbanPromise Honduras is opened (Camp Joy)! September 2009- UPH's first full-time after-school program opens - Camp Hope - directed by Matt Wall. November 2009- UPH adds a vacation camp - Camp Alabanza - for public school children during their November-January break (equivalent of the North American summer break). July 2010- UPH continues with their second summer hosting Camp Joy but now completely directed and supervised with the help of 7 interns. (Camp Joy is a bilingual camp with a summer break equivalent to the North American summer break) January 2011- UPH hosts two public school vacation camps at the same time - Camp Hope and Camp Alabanza
